It seems that everyone in the West, or at least the U.S., is talking about this Olympic gold medalist named Bruce Jenner‘s decision to start dressing like a woman. He wants everyone to call him Caitlyn, but in China, he’s called a 人妖 (rényāo). C’mon, with 5,000 years of history, the Chinese have seen it all. In fact, almost 2,000 years ago, during the Six Dynasties period, they even had a guy dressed as a woman playing the role of a wife battered by her drunken husband in a Chinese opera. Domestic violence? Been there, done that, too. The opera is called “The Dancing Singing Woman” (踏謡娘). If they had television back then, it probably would have been a reality TV show.
